The Company: A U.S.-based multifaceted defense contractor acquired a systems development company specializing in providing computer-based solutions for U.S. government agencies, particularly non-defense agencies.

The Challenge: The acquired organization has contracts with government entities requiring work to be performed outside the U.S. The U.S. Defense Base Act requires that coverage providing the benefits under the act be purchased for any work performed outside the U.S. Technically the acquired entity was not in compliance with their contract or the law. The matter was made especially urgent when it was disclosed that personnel were being temporarily assigned to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Equity Risk Partners Global Solution: Equity Risk Partners Global brokers provided counsel on the requirements of the Defense Base Act and the exclusive programs available to satisfy the contractual and statutory requirement. The proper coverage was put in place within days of being advised of the exposure. Particularly in light of the Iraq and Afghanistan exposures, we made sure that coverage was also provided under the War Hazards Compensation Act.
